“The nude does not simply represent the body, but relates it, by analogy, to all structures that have become part of our imaginative experience.” — Sir Kenneth Clark, former Director the National Gallery, London
Curney Nuffer is offering classes for artists who would like to learn about drawing and painting the nude. This is a three-hour class once a week to explore sketching first, then building the form of the human body by painting dark to light. The model will be lit and emphasis will be placed on seeing the values of the skin tones as well as using color. Every other week there will be a different model.
The palette that Curney uses is specially mixed by students in advance and originated at the Art Students League in New York. It requires the use of only 7 tube colors of paint and white. It is key to building a strong foundation for painting the human form based upon simplicity and strong shapes. Even if you don’t want to paint figures or portraits in the future, the lessons you will learn will greatly improve your drawing and painting. You can draw for all the classes and not paint if you prefer.
Fee: $280, for eight classes (includes model fees). A supply list and more class info will be sent to every student via email in advance. No refunds once classes have started. Class size is limited to ten.
To register, email Susan Dull at susandull@icloud.com or call 804.914.9791. Make checks for $125 payable to Susan Dull and mail to 304 Saint David’s Lane, Richmond, VA 23221.
