The Black Rooster Gallery is located in the Black Rooster Lounge on the ground floor of the newly renovated General Francis Marion Hotel (www.gfmhotel.com) in downtown Marion, Virginia. The Black Rooster Gallery gets its name from an artistic tile motif in the floor of the General Francis Marion Hotel’s famous card room depicting a rooster. The card room and tile motif date from 1928, when the hotel was constructed.

In August of 2006, Jenni and James, of the Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, VA, partnered with hotel proprietors and Marion residents, Joe and Susie Ellis, to form The Black Rooster Gallery at the General Francis Marion Hotel in Marion, VA.

Our goal at the Black Rooster is to promote local and regional artists and crafts persons. We are working also closely with the Smyth County Tourism Association and local artists to create an art center in Smyth County.

The Gallery has an open house the 2nd Friday of every month. The open houses are free to the general public.

Jenni Kirby is a former Marion native, who now lives in Richmond, Virginia, where she and fellow artist James Bassfield opened the Crossroads Art Center in 2002.

The Crossroads Art Center Exhibition Programming Policy
