The oil paintings of Joyce Satterwhite, artist-in-residence at Mulberry Banks Art on Farnham Creek, have the narrative flow of a written story, speaking volumes about her zest for life as she summons memories filled with vivid impressions. Comfortable with subjects ranging from figures and animals to rolling landscapes and colorful little boat harbors, her work courts both serious collectors and those new to the world of fine art.
Primarily self-taught, Joyce has also received formal instruction from professionals including Edwin Kayton, an accomplished artist on the big island of Hawaii whose work is included in numerous corporate collections. Classes and workshops have also involved study in plein air painting in places such as Italy, the Republic of Georgia, and Hawaii.
Never one to shy away from challenges, Joyce’s routine fuses 50-plus years in the beauty industry, ownership of Precision One Salon and Spa (where her art is also displayed), and family and travel. Extensive travel has increased her cultural awareness, and her paintings are true to the people and places that inspired them.
Joyce is an exhibiting member of the Crossroads Art Gallery, exhibiting member of the Bon Air Artists’ Association, and active with the Virginia Plein Air Painters
