Sherwin Ghaphery is a plein air and studio painter. Her travels give inspiration to capture the people and places she visits. “I enjoy letting the paint flow over the canvas, giving life again to what I have experienced.”
After teaching first grade and raising two children, Sherwin earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has studied oil painting with various artists, including Karen O’Neil, Maggie Siner, Dawn Whitlaw, Jean McKinzie, Frank Hobbs, Janet Fish, Charles Sovek, Mark Lague, Anne Blair Brown, and Burton Silverman. She has also been influenced by the works of her favorite painter, Joaquin Sorolla.
Sherwin is a longstanding member of the Bon Air Artists Association. She has held offices in the association and chaired many of its events.
Her paintings can be seen in various corporate collections including Williams and Mullens Law Firm, Media General, Advest, Medical College of Virginia, and Cigna Health Care. She also has work in private collections throughout the country and is represented by Chasen Galleries and Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, Virginia.
