Savannah Ball graduated with her BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. She currently lives and works in Richmond, Virginia.
Savannah’s work embodies a calm, saturated atmosphere, observing the familiar in an unfamiliar context, while celebrating the color, life, and vibrancy of the everyday world. She takes great satisfaction in examining and portraying the inherent beauty in mundane or often overlooked objects. A persistent optimist, Savannah creates work that revolves around the daily practice of gratitude and choosing to see the beautiful moments around oneself.
Compositions are stumbled upon and characteristics of everyday moments are highlighted. Savannah simplifies the observed colors and shapes that constitute the objects, in order to enhance the original compositions discovered. Her plant portraits document a different way to garden and cultivate life. There is a daily routine of patience and day to day growth in gardening that Savannah brings to her work. The difference being, you don’t need to water painted plants. Regardless of her subject matter, the joy found in simplicity is celebrated.
