At the start of the day, you’ll be given instruction about how to paint a tree, how to capture the light and shadow as well as the grass and sky. During the workshop, Susan Singer will come around frequently to offer support and individualized instruction. Basic knowledge of watercolor and drawing is required. Come prepared to learn to see the world in a brand new way!
In this perfect follow-up class to Beginning Watercolor, you’ll have a chance to learn more advanced skills to add to the fabulous repertoire you’ve already accumulated! You’ll learn to paint trees and clouds in small landscapes. You’ll work with patterns in playful pieces. You’ll learn about Art History and use their work as inspiration for your own. Plan on lots of learning, lots of fun, lots of challenges, and wonderful classmates to do it all with!
Anyone who has taken a Beginning Watercolor class is welcome to attend.
Are you in love with watercolors, but stymied about how to progress now that you’ve already taken Beginning and Intermediate Watercolors? Do you need a place to help you focus weekly on your art? Are you wanting to hang out with others who love the creative process? Do you want to keep learning skills and to be presented with lessons each week? This just might be the perfect class for you!
Each week, through a series of fun exercises, you’ll learn or review a skill then will have an opportunity to spend time practicing it. The emphasis will be on helping you develop your own artistic practice so you feel confident to paint whenever, wherever, and whatever you want to!
One of the sweetest experiences we can have these days is to receive a “real” letter in the mail instead of just bills and advertisements. Now imagine receiving a home-made card from a loved one!
In this 6-week class, you will have an opportunity to make lots of cards and to learn the following:
- 10 – 20 designs for cards, created in watercolor and/or fine liner pen, including both holiday and non- themed cards
- Lots of watercolor and drawing techniques to create the cards.
- How to get your designs printed on cards so you can send them to multiple people or perhaps even offer them for sale.
- Common sizes for cards and the envelopes that are readily available to fit them.
- How to make envelopes to fit uncommonly-sized cards.
- You will also have a chance to experiment and come up with your own designs.
- The designs you’ll learn will mostly be simple - subjects even a beginner can create, but it will be helpful to have a bit of drawing and/or watercolor skill.
Painting in watercolor can be quite complicated if you dive in headfirst and try to paint a complicated photograph, for example. That's way too overwhelming, in my humble opinion!
Instead of throwing you off that deep end, I break down the skills you'll need into clearly defined, fairly simple exercises which each teach 1-2 skills. Each skill is taught within the parameter of fun, interesting, and/or beautiful exercises like the one above.
By the end of the class, you'll have a set of skills which can be combined to approach a more complicated picture or to paint Urban Sketches, for example. You'll feel confident that you understand how to use the materials well and how to apply them to achieve your desired results.
We all do it - whenever the meeting gets boring, or the teacher drones on too long, we take out our pens and start doodling. This fun class will formalize your doodling just enough to make you want to do it all the time - not just when
you're on interminable hold with the telephone company. You'll learn new patterns and ways to put them together, and maybe you'll even invent some to share with the class. This is a fun and interactive class for all ages. Class is appropriate
for absolute beginners to art as well as seasoned artists who want to add some patterns to their palette.

Drawing for the Absolute Beginner is designed to help novices learn the skills so they can draw realistically. You’ll first learn about materials, then you will do your first drawing exercise in a way that is designed to be completely non- threatening and fail-proof! The rest of the exercises will teach you various skills which you can then combine to create surprisingly good pictures for a person who’s only been drawing a few weeks!
The atmosphere is supportive, encouraging, fun, and dynamic. If you’d like to sign up, email Susan Singer at SusanSingerArt@msn.com.
