This piece is part of a series of "Improvisations". I paint white listening to music and let the work unfold, as a conversation....a give and take between me and the surface. I allow the mark making to evolve fairly spontaneously, incorporating both paint and applied collage materials.
Artist Statement:
My creative journey has included conceptual mixed-media pieces, monotypes, figurative and still-life paintings and drawings, and non-objective and abstract oil paintings. In recent years, I have been I particularly drawn to painting the landscape. The Blue Ridge Mountains, gardens, travels in the United States and abroad, the sea, and memories of places I have been have inspired my work. “The give and take inherent in the creative process, the excitement of color juxtapositions, the whisper of an elegant edge, the joy that I feel when colors and shapes lock into each other as they play across the surface, are all continually challenging and deeply satisfying.''
