We are delighted to present an extraordinary exhibition showcasing the captivating artworks of Jos Biviano, a highly acclaimed visual artist based in Richmond, Virginia. Jos, a distinguished landscape painter, pays homage to Nature in a manner reminiscent of the transcendental images celebrated by the nineteenth-century Hudson River and Luminist Schools of Art.
Renowned for his forceful and dramatic displays of light and shadow, intense color palettes, and Turner-like atmospheric effects, Jos's paintings beckon viewers to engage emotionally with his compositions. His mastery spans various mediums, including oil and oil stick, acrylic, Chinese ink, and aquarelle.
Jos's artistic influence extends far beyond Richmond, as he has exhibited his works both nationally and internationally. Notably, he participated in a Contemporary Inkworks exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Beijing, demonstrating the global recognition of his talent. A past Artist In Residence at the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary on the Ramah-Navajo Indian Reservation in NM, Jos's resulting creations drew national attention to both the artist and the conservation of the North American Gray Wolf.
More recently, Jos has garnered acclaim as an Antarctic illustrator, further diversifying his artistic pursuits. His latest project, "Antarctic Vignettes," inspired by Captain Robert Falcon Scott's ill-fated Antarctica Journals during the Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913), received widespread acclaim from national and international Antarctic organizations. Jos recently returned from Antarctica, where he served as Artist In Residence from December 2022 to March 2023, further solidifying his reputation as a versatile and globally recognized artist.
