Venice Secrets
Pastel on Matboard on Foamcore
18 x 14 x 1", Framed to 23 x 19 x 2"
$550
In a gondola in Venice, gliding by this building, I could only imagine the secret love stories that this hundreds of years old building could tell. There is a hint to one in this painting, which I painted on matboard to recreate some of the texture there.
Artist's Statement:
My preferred painting medium has been pastels since my first art class in High School. I paint portraits and wildlife because I delight in capturing the inner self of my subjects. Each one is special, and my challenge is to bring for that uniqueness. Every painting is a celebration of life.
I have found additional challenges in landscape and still life painting. Working in pastels, colored pencil and graphite, my award-winning paintings reproduce the spirit of my subjects in a style that is almost three dimensional in effect.
Since 1987, when I began painting full time, I have painted commissioned portrait and wildlife paintings in Virginia and Florida. I am presently showing my work at Crossroads Art Center, in Richmond, Virginia. I teach pastel painting classes at The Cultural Arts Center At Glen Allen, where my work is also displayed.
I have been fortunate enough to have won many awards and been published by the Virginia Museum of Natural History, and Virginia Tech. I was featured in Mature Outlook magazine. My paintings hang in private and public collections from Florida to Alaska.
