Snake in the Grass
Found Wood, Mahogany, Cherry
13 x 36 x 16"
$450
A piece of a limb, half rotten, appeared as a snake in the grass during a walk. Some carving and stabilizing of the limb, some steam-bending mahogany for the grass, a piece of cherry for the ground, and that image is recreated in wood.
Artist's Statement:
I have worked with wood as a hobby for most of my adult life. Now in retirement I am able to truly focus on stretching my skills and creativity full time.
Each piece of wood was alive at one time – breathing in its own ways. And for me there is still life in it. My goal is for each piece that I use to inspire me to create shapes and forms – baskets, wood turnings, sculpture, and pieces of furniture - that allow the material's natural beauty to be seen, touched and appreciated by all who look at it.
