Oil on Canvas
30 x 40 x .5", framed 32 x 42 x 1"
$2400
My initial goal in beginning this piece was to feature the Great Egret, in flight. I chose the marsh view off Folly Island in South Carolina as the setting. It was done with palette knives, Rosemary & Co. brushes, and lots of paper towels.
Artist Statement:
My work is a visual record of my life experience. Moments captured in paint on canvas. It might be a comical situation with the chickens, a sweet moment with a grandchild, or an interesting view seen while out walking.
Creating art is an integral part of every day for me. I love the buttery texture of oil paint. The tactile experience of creating brush strokes or swiping paint onto canvas is satisfying. I use a variety of tools in the process: palette knives, brushes, squeegees, etc. Texture is created with thick oil paint, adding a bit of walnut oil to the paint when necessary as I am nearing the completion of a piece.
Using color to manipulate light and shadow. Making suggestions with gestural marks, while leaving something to the imagination. There is a story behind every piece. A collector’s impression of that story is not always the same as mine and that is part of the fun!
