John Bryan
Bass from the James
1986
Acrylic on Mat Board
4.75” x 11.75”
This is the original artwork that was reproduced by hand-painting on a 22-foot billboard in downtown Richmond, Virginia as part of the city’s competitive “Rush Hour Art Show” that featured 15 artworks selected by the juror, internationally acclaimed artist Howardena Pindell, and by noted designer/critic Melissa Feldman. This original artwork from the artist’s personal collection has never been exhibited or offered for sale until now. The artwork is accompanied by a framed full-color photo of the 22-foot Billboard. “There were many outstanding entries from which 15 were finally selected. These billboards serve as an important contrast to the sales-oriented contemporary commercial billboards . . . The large billboard format allows the artist the widest possible exposure to the public.” – Melissa Feldman and Howardena D. Pindell
