I rode the bus to tutor students at a charter school and the views from the bus windows always framed our city in the best ways. These “vignettes “ gave so much poetry to the routine.

Artist's Statement:

Painting from observation has been a part of my practice for almost 40 years. The complexity in an urban scene has drawn me to these subjects. Adjusting tones and marks create depth while maintaining an active and expressive surface. 

Without my paints, my eyes still scan the possibilities and I create sketches or photographs to jog my memory. These scrambled cars and trees seen through a rain soaked window translate into brush marks.
