Emulating feelings of rage and despair, violent and raised brushstrokes battle each other in a rage of sharp edges meeting and transforming in chaos. Inspired by emotions of a changing and breaking climate, this abstract piece allows contradiction to form a larger maximalist harmony.
Artist's Statement:
As an artist who has studied and worked in both the digital and physical realm, my art as a whole explores the dichotomy between the artificial and the natural. Since merging both artistic and academic studies at the Gallatin School for Individualized Study at New York University in Digital Art, Design, and Politics and an MFA in Design for Suitability at the Savannah College of Art and Design , I’ve focused on utilizing technology as a means to enhance offline work as well as physical manipulation to inform digital work. While creating on a spectrum— from both abstract and surreal painting, to pop-sculpture to digital art and graphic design centered on activism, an inherent play emerges between where the digital and physical meet. Conceptually and visually, my work is inspired by a variety of realms, from futurism, science fiction, doomerism, feminism, escapism, pop art, abstract expressionism, activist and queer traditions, Marxism and post-modern critical theory.
