Winter is the time when we can really see the structural framework of the tree –all the branches which hold it up and feed its leaves and fruit in summer. I’ve carved a portion of the tree, letting the branches flow off the constraints of the panel’s edge, just as when they reach out into the sky.

Artist's Statement:

I have worked with wood as a hobby for most of my adult life. Now in retirement I am able to truly focus on stretching my skills and creativity full time.

Each piece of wood was alive at one time – breathing in its own ways. And for me there is still life in it. My goal is for each piece that I use to inspire me to create shapes and forms – baskets, wood turnings, sculpture, and pieces of furniture - that allow the material's natural beauty to be seen, touched and appreciated by all who look at it.
