Sherwin Ghaphery
Sherwin Ghaphery is a plein-air and studio painter. Her travels give inspiration to capture the people and places she visits. “I enjoy letting the paint flow over the canvas-giving life again to what I have experienced.”
After teaching the first grade and then raising two children, Sherwin earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and print making from Virginia Commonwealth University.
She has been fortunate to study oil painting with various artists including: Karen O’Neil, Maggie Siner, Dawn Whitlaw, Jean McKinzie, Frank Hobbs, Janet Fish, Charles Sovek, Mark Lague, Anne Blair Brown and Burton Silverman. She has also been influenced by the works of her favorite painter Joaquin Sorolla.
Sherwin is a long-standing member of the Bon Air Artists Association. She has held offices in this organization and been the chairperson for many of its events.
Her paintings can be seen in various corporate collections including: Williams and Mullens Law Firm, Media General, Advest, Medical College of Virginia and Cigna Health Care. She also has work in private collections through out the country and is represented by Chasen Galleries and Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, Virginia.
Her work is on view in private collections through out the country. She is represented by Crossroads Art Center and Chasen Galleries in Richmond, Virginia and by Chasen Galleries in Sarasota, Florida. She frequently participates in exhibitions held by The Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in New York City as she is a Signature Member of this highly regarded organization.
