Susannah Raine
Susannah Raine always makes color her first consideration when beginning a new piece.
She tends to work in series — animals, desserts, dresses, gardens, ancestors. She works in both oil and acrylic, and the acrylic pieces are typically enhanced by various patterned papers. Because she has a notecard business as well, the paper scraps from her cards never go to waste. Often she produces limited-edition prints from her paintings; some become notecards as well. Her other notecards are characterized with vintage photos accompanied by funny quotes. For added whimsy, she usually works in bright colors that may not be realistic for her subject matter. Her art has been described as "hopeful" and is often good for a smile and laugh.
